My husband and I found this little piece of paradise through a small ad in a canadian magazine. We inquired and found the prices really reasonable. We first came to Sisal,Yucatan,Mexico in the fall of 2000 and this will be our 10th winter.
This quiet little fishing village has everything you would want for a restful winter getaway. The first year we came here we had to walk into the village to make a phone call, we had to go by minibus to the next village for an internet café and we only had Spanish radio/tv.
Now we have telephones in every house, optional wireless internet and Sky Satelite TV. We stay here for 6 months but others stay 3 or 4 or 5 months. We have met so many wonderful people here. We stay in touch all year with our Mexican and Canadian friends.
The local merchants always welcome us and cater to us. We have many options to get to the big city of Merida (1 hour away). The bus services are great and we have a few bus drivers who have access to different size vehicles to bring us into town. If we organize a trip to the Casino or a shopping trip the driver either stays and waits for us or comes back at the end of the day.
The men organize fishing trips on the gulf of Mexico with the local fishermen. Sometimes our landlord has enough guys to hire two boats and make it a competition fishing trip.
We have a great group of canadians who come back every year. We get together for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and of course Happy Hour every night. I never imagined that retirement living could be this good. The weather here is great. Usually in the 30o celcius all winter. Our families fly to Mexico to spend their winter holidays with us. what else could we want or need.
This is my 8th winter on this quiet and safe paradise in Sisal, Mexico. The houses are fully equipped, and beautifully furnished. We are accepted here as members of the host family. Merida, the nearest city, has great shopping with major stores such as Costco, Walmart, Sears to name just a few. Merida also has excellent health care services. I feel very fortunate to have found such a wonderful place to spend my winters.
Our host at this property was perfect. We had everything we needed for a wonderful holiday. We do hope, however, that this unspoilt village remains as it is, so we can continue to enjoy it's peaceful beauty.
There are hardly words to describe how beautiful and perfect our wedding and our stay here was. Getting married at this property in Sisal was one of the most beautiful and memorable moments of our lives. We cannot thank Daniel enough for his hospitality, kindness, trust and generousity. Abraham and his wife are equally as kind and friendly and these wonderful people are part of what make this place so special. We could not have picked a more perfect place to get married.
